MUSIC
2013 has been a break out year for London-based band Familiar Creatures. Their music is up-tempo and filled with the magical trumpet lines of one-girl brass section Jessie Barnard. The vocals, sung by Irish front man, Brian Kelly, are a powerful and refreshing tonic to the overcooked sounds of the indie folk/rock scene. Jay Ramsurrun (Lead Guitar) delivers classy riffs, while the rhythm section of Muiris O Donnchu (Keys), Arwyn Davies (Bass) and Dan Jenkinson (Drums) dish out solid, eclectic, grooves.
Despite their recent beginnings, the Creatures' curious, danceable sound has already landed them on the playlists of BBC 6 and BBC London. As well as playing regularly across London the band also featured at this year’s Hard Working Class Heroes festival in Dublin, celebrating the best in new Irish music.
Random band facts: Familiar Creatures are tri-lingual (English, Welsh and Irish). Their favourite chord is C sharp minor 7th and their drummer has a very real and extremely justified fear of crows.
The Creatures’ goal is to attract management and booking agency interest, with a view to lining up a full gig and festival schedule for the 2013.
